School Mediation

We have many years experience of helping headteachers and staff to resolve conflict within schools. Conflict can arise, between pupils, between parents, between parents and teachers, teachers and their peers and between teachers and management figures. Disputes can also arise between headteachers and the board of governors as well as between governors themselves.

A dispute in a school environment may impact upon the positive learning environment that the school is striving to create, and the resolution of a dispute can bring many positive benefits.

Our mediation process is impartial, and Sam and Jo create a safe space for both parties to talk about their experience of the dispute and hear what the other side has to say. Often disputes are caused by misunderstandings or a lack of awareness of a problem and mediation can help both sides work towards a lasting agreement.

Mediation can also be used with the aim to prevent children becoming excluded or suspended from school.

Preventing children from being excluded from school might protect them in several ways. There is an extensive evidence base that children who are excluded from school race further adverse life experiences. Supporting children to stay in school might lead to higher educational attainment and more opportunities in the future and ensure children remain in a safe environment.
